Description: Students will continue building their Japanese vocabulary and their knowledge of the Japanese writing systems. Each lesson includes written and oral exercises as well as cultural instruction. More complex grammar is introduced, including conjugating adjectives and forming past-tense verbs and adjectives. Cultural topics covered include transportation, food, school life and subjects, hobbies, and leisure time.

Assignments need to be created in Microsoft Word or another word processor that saves files as .doc (Word 97–2003 document) or .rtf (Rich Text format). Your computer must also have the capability to record sound from a microphone (listed as optional course material below).
