Description: In this introductory course, students will explore the role of arts in helping people understand cultures of the past and the world today through the study of painting, sculpture, architecture, and film. Lessons will encourage students to critically examine and evaluate artistic works.
Special Instructions: The course requires students to view Orson Welles’s 1941 movie, Citizen Kane. CDIS will not provide copies of the movie (DVD or VHS). The course contains some explicit art, such as classical paintings of nudes in the textbook and photographs of classical nude statuary in the course material on the Web.
