High School FAQs

  • How many courses can I take at one time?
    • If you are enrolled in another school, we recommend you take no more than two MU High school courses at a time. If you are a student in the MU High School program, we recommend you take between 2-6 courses, depending on your schedule and the amount of time you have to devote to coursework.

  • Does MU High School offer a diploma?
    • Yes, MU High School offers two fully accredited four-year high school diplomas—a general and a college-prep.

  • How do students use MU High School's diploma program?
    • The University of Missouri High School diploma program provides opportunities for students in various circumstances to meet their educational needs. Among those served are students who:

      • Are in countries outside the United States and are without access to an accredited high school diploma program from a school in the United States.
      • Have dropped out of school but want to continue their education and earn a high school diploma.
      • Cannot attend a local school because they are homebound.
      • Want to accelerate their high school progress.
      • Want a quality education in a home school setting.

  • How will I receive information about my MUHS courses?
    • When you enroll, you will need to provide MU High School with a valid email address on your application. Most communications from us will be by email, so be sure to add MU High School to your "safe senders" list.
  • Who may enroll in MU High School's diploma program?
    • Virtually anyone may enroll in MU High School's diploma program. Students under the age of 18 who are residents of a school district in the United States must submit written permission from a school official in their district to enter our diploma program, or they must supply written verification that they are in compliance with their state's home schooling education requirements. Students living outside the United States may enroll in our diploma program if they include with their diploma application an official transcript of all previously completed high school coursework (beginning with grade nine).

  • May credits earned elsewhere be transferred to MU High School?
    • Yes, academic credits earned at other schools may be tranferred to our school. All credit issued by regionally or state accredited secondary schools as high school credit is accepted at face value toward meeting MU High School's graduation requirements.

  • I have taken courses at another school, may I receive an MU High diploma?
    • Yes, you may. However, students receiving a diploma from MU High School must successfully complete a minimum of their five final courses (2 1/2 Carnegie units) after acceptance into our diploma program. In addition, diploma students are required to meet all MUHS graduation requirements including the successful completion of our Personal Development and Character Education and Career Planning courses (each equivalent to 1/2 Carnegie unit). These courses may be included in the 2 1/2 credit requirement.

  • How do I request a transcript (High School)?
  • Does MU High School offer courses for gifted or academically talented students?
    • Yes. MU High School offers several challenging courses designed for academically talented middle school and high school students. These courses are designated "Gifted Course" in the course description. If you are unsure whether a course designated as "gifted" is appropriate for you, please contact MU High.   • Which high school courses are considered "Practical Arts?"
    • Agriculture, Business Education, Computer Education, Family & Consumer Sciences, and Industrial Arts & Technology courses are all considered to be practical arts.

  • Are self-paced independent learning college courses available for High School Students?
    • Yes, high school students who have completed 12 units of high school credit and are in the top 25% of their class may begin to earn college credit through the University of Missouri by enrolling in and successfully completing one or more college-level independent learning courses. Students may take these college courses along with their high school courses or after graduation.

  • Where can I take exams?
