Description: Continuing the study of biology, students will examine the diversity of life within the six-kingdom classification model. Lesson topics include the science of taxonomy; viruses and bacteria; protists; fungi; and the plant and animal kingdoms. In the study of plants and animals, students will learn about their structure, function, and reproduction. The last half of the course concludes with a study of the animal kingdom, both invertebrates and vertebrates. Students will also research two special topics.

DATES: Enrollments begin in October; coursework starts January 14, 2013.

The semester courses follow a specific calendar, and the normal 9-month completion policy does not apply to these courses. Therefore, students who have not completed all work by the due date for the course final (listed on the course calendar) will automatically be withdrawn from the course.

Lesson assignments need to be created in Microsoft Word or another word processor that saves files as .doc (Word 97–2003 document) or .rtf (Rich Text format). The same textbook is also used for the fall semester.
