Description: This course focuses on the foundations of the U.S. government and the principles of the U.S. Constitution. The course also examines the rights and responsibilities of citizens, civil rights and citizenship, the political process, the powers and limits of the three branches of government, U.S. public policy, and the Missouri Constitution.
Missouri residents taking courses from MU High School and all resident/nonresident diploma-seeking students: The State of Missouri requires that you pass a test on the Missouri Constitution and the U.S. Constitution in order to meet core competency skill requirements in history. Successful completion of this course will meet these state requirements. You must complete the lesson covering the Missouri Constitution even if you are not a resident of Missouri. Both American Government and Civics meet Missouri’s core competency skill requirements in history.
Note: Successful completion of the course fulfills the requirement of Missouri law to earn 0.5 credits of Government.
