Description: This course picks up after the Civil War and covers literature during the realism/regionalism movement through the twentieth century. Students will read and evaluate texts and examine these texts’ literary development (plot, characters, figurative language, tone, etc.) and make connections to the time periods in which they were written. They will also learn about the authors and their roles in American literature.
The same textbooks are also used for 11th Grade English (Fall Semester).
DATES: Enrollments begin in October; coursework starts January 14, 2013.
Special Instructions: The course content will be viewable two weeks prior to the start date. Read more about our semester courses online. The semester courses follow a specific calendar, and the normal 9-month completion policy does not apply to these courses. Therefore, students who have not completed all work by the due date for the course final (listed on the course calendar) will automatically be withdrawn from the course.
Lesson assignments need to be created in Microsoft Word or another word processor that saves files as .doc (Word 97–2003 document) or .rtf (Rich Text format). The same textbooks are also used for the fall semester.
